IMPORTANCE OF IPCA CERTIFICATION

The IPCA is a consortium of professional coaches and organizations, who have come together under the auspices of the International Coaching Conference of Nice. IPCA is born from the work of this Conference, to shape and govern the profession of coaching. The skills sets, competencies, ethics and standards are a collective agreement between coaches from all over the world who have made the commitment to maintain the very highest professional standards you would expect from any other profession.

Since coaching is a comparatively newer profession and certification and licensure are not yet required in most states in the U.S. or in other countries, there are many individuals who are calling themselves coaches today. These self-styled men and women, who call themselves coaches have not received any formal training in specific coaching skills and are transferring skill sets from other professions into their coaching. Often this results in an inappropriate, inadequate and/or ineffective coaching experience for clients. Don't be misled thinking of a coach as competent because they have other professional credentials or charge high fees.

If you are considering hiring a coach, remember to in ask the coach :
• if they have been specifically trained in coaching skills and
• currently hold or in the process of acquiring IPCA credential.

IPCA Professional Standards

IPCA has set extremely high professional standards and even after certification its members keep in contact with their Trainers to undergo annual and scheduled continuous Training and knowledge-sharing.

Certification from the IPCA is extremely important when hiring a coach to hire. Only an IPCA-trained Coach has the following qualifications and expertise :

• Has received professional training from a program specifically designed to teach coaching skills in alignment with the IPCA Competencies and Code of Ethics.
• Has demonstrated a complete and proficient understanding and use of the coaching competencies as outlined by the IPCA
• Is accountable to the ethics and standards set forth by the IPCA
